SINGAPORE : The annual Singapore Youth Festival kicked off on
Saturday with an opening ceremony and this year, it was back at the
National Stadium for some high-adrenalin action.
It featured an ear-deafening gun salute, a flypast and 10 Red Lions
executing their moves with precision.
This is the first time the commandos are taking part in a Youth
Festival parade, turning up the adrenalin level right from the
start.
More than 9,000 youths bursting with energy and enthusiasm kicked
off the month-long celebration with their finest displays.
What sets this parade apart from others is the display band
competition, in which four of the best secondary school bands
showed off their marching skills and creativity to fight for the
title of display band of the year.
The bands from Deyi, Ping Yi, Springfield, Tanjong Katong and Bowen
Secondary put up a tough fight, wooing the 55,000 strong crowd with
their precise moves and snazzy tunes.
"They have many techniques, many patterns; I like it," one audience
member said.
"It's magnificent -- the colours, the music," another said.
In the end, it was three-time winner Tanjong Katong that took the
title yet again. - CNA
