books?
i recommend 2 books... one about math, the other about a fish...
both told like a detective story..
Fermat's Last Theorem by Simon Singh
about a man's singleminded obsession with the most difficult
mathematical puzzle ever.. and within that, the history of
mathematics... the geniuses and stories behind them... almost
minimal mathematics involved and a great read...
A Fish Caught In Time: The Search for the Coelacanth by Samatha
Weinberg
about the time when a young biologist came across a curious fish in
the nets of a trawler.. and she realised it was a fish thought to
be extinct for 400 million years... and the mad rush to find more
specimens.. the swashbuckling people, the nationalism and more, to
get at THAT fish...
