DP,
Hope things are improving for you. And as for rejections, I get
them all the time (life as a writer sometimes sucks monkey balls),
so my heart goes out to you. The upside of things, though, is that
rejections usually let you know where you're lacking, and where to
apply yourself in the future... afterall, self-improvement is a
cornerstone of progress.
Here's a suggestion -- why not freelance for a bit? It gives you
ample chances to test-drive the industries you're interested in,
and you can always ask to be converted full-time later if the
employers are appreciative of your work.
