Distractions
Memos, schedules and paper files
Each day passes as I sit in the pile
Not lifting my eyes, not resting a while
Enslaved in toil till my heart turned vile
Scores, wealth and pride in fame
Each time it grows my ego gains
Not humbling my actions, boasting without restraint
Engulfed in arrogance I live a life in vain
Lies, flattery and critiques that hurt
Each wound deepens as my words grow curt
Not caring a soul, treating others as dirt
Engrossed in biases my ill judgement I assert
Blind, deaf and drawn away
Each moments too late, far from You I stray
Not seeing Your light, not hearing what You say
Enshrouded in denial, I made excuses for not walking Your way
Lord, Saviour, Eternal Friend
Each sin I committed I now repent
No more excuses, no distractions by any man
Embracing Your Word, my old life I end
Father, Son and the Holy Ghost,
Each night I pray to do my utmost
To heed Your Word, to love You most
Endeavouring to serve You, to do as You chose.
