If you are into fantasy, Robert jordan's Wheel of Time series is
good, even though its quite confusing at times, due to so many
names that are similar.
For humour, try Douglas Adams Hitchhikers series, witty and
satirical. Had rarely laughed out loud when reading, but couldnt
help it at times when reading the series. Some parts are quite
corny though.
Other recommendations are the usual ones like Salinger's Catcher,
Heller's Catch22, Orwell's 1984 and many others. Really depending
on what genre you are into. Just my 2 cents.
