Thai Airways unveiled more details of its new low-cost carrier,
SkyAsia. Airline officials told ATWOnline that fares will be 40%
below normal domestic offerings and tickets will be available
through 7-Eleven stores. Services using three 737-300s taken from
Thai Airways' mainline fleet are due to start in June.
Separately, Thai Airways executives said the airline is looking at
acquiring some 747-400s from Star Alliance partner Singapore
Airlines in lieu of the collapsed deal with United Airlines for
seven aircraft. SIA has told its pilots that it plans to reduce the
number of 747-400s in its fleet significantly over the next three
years and replace them with 777-300ERs.--GT
