Chapter 1: Who am I?
I was alone, the fingers tapping softly on the table at the
MacDonald's at Parkway. People with umbrellas were walking past in
the pouring rain. I looked out the mirror and shrugged in the cold,
finding little comfort in the coffee.
The coffee was the only solace. Hot, it was; bitterness, it left on
my tastebud. I wrapped my fingers the styrofoam cup, seeking to
gain as much warmth as possible. I was wearing a sleeveless shirt
and jeans and had my rain peppered in the rain.
'The rain look like it would
never stop,' I thought to myself. I cursed. He was late, and
I'm here at the MacDonald's waiting. How can a guy let a lady wait?
I cursed silently again.
Time seemed to be frozen as I tried to contact David. No one picked
up the call. The rain, was pouring, and my heart dampened as there
no replies to my SMS messages. The urge to cry appeared as I didn't
know what to do. Stranded, I found myself staring blankly at the
students dashing across the rain.
Finally, the downpour was becoming smaller so I decided to leave. I
held to my handphone like a blind, bumping into another man looking
at his. Our handphones fell together and I picked up mine and
scolded the guy for not looking.
'Hey! Watch where you're
heading!' I angrily told him as I placed my handphone into
my bag. The man gave me an angry glare before he used his elbow to
brush past me. I was even more angry but I just opened the door and
left, cursing my luck. I had forgotten about David and crossed the
road.

I went and took the bus home. Then on the bus I was listening to my
discman when the old lady beside me tapped my shoulder. I took out
the earphones and the ringtone was different. I looked at the phone
and the name was some "Mark Wen".
'Hey Larry, you coming going to
Double-O tonight?' the Mark Wen guy asked.
'Larry? I think you got the wrong
number,' I told him.
'It's his number. Lady, can you
ask him to answer his own handphone? Mark Wen asked
rudely.
'What? You got the wrong number,
there is no Larry here,' I answered frustrated.
'Are you telling me Larry changed
his number? Can you tell Larry he's not funny and it's really dumb.
I was talking to him earlier today, so please ask him to answer the
phone. He don't have to ask any girlfriends of his to answer for
him if he doesn't want to come.' Mark Wen said.
'Man, this guy is a rude chap! He
obviously called the wrong number!' I thought to myself.
'Sorry, wrong number.' and
I hang up the call. 'Atrocious!
This guy has the nerves to say these rubbish. Man, how stupid and
crazy can a guy get?' I thought.

After I reached home, I put my slingbag on the bed and lied down on
the bed. Then I started to find David's contacts. 'Wait a
minute!' my mind screamed, 'This is not my handphone! Who are these
people?'
'Damn!' I cursed silently
and thought to myself, 'how did
this happen? Is there something wrong with the sim card? When it
rains, it really pours!' I would go and check with the
handphone dealer.
Then the phone rang with an unfamiliar ringtone again but a
familiar number popped up. It was my number.
'Hello, this is Larry speaking,
I'm afraid you took my handphone by mistake.'
'How did that happen?' I
bluntly interrupted him.
'At MacDonald's. Parkway. You
know, a guy wearing black cotton long sleeve shirt? I think you
took my phone when you bumped into me.'
'Why not you bump into me and you
took my phone?' I asked
'Whatever. Where and when can I
meet you to exchange the phones?'
'Anytime today. Central area
perhaps.'
'How about 7pm tonight? At
Millenium Walk'
'Okay, 7pm at Millenium Walk. I
got it.' I hung the phone.
