Makiyo settles with
taxi-driver
Taipei –
Television starlet Makiyo and her companion Takateru Tomoyori have
reached an NT $3-million (S$128120) out of court settlement with
the taxi driver they have assaulted last month, their lawyer said
in court last Thursday.
Prosecutors had asked for
nightclub operator Tomoyori, 34, to be jailed for six years and
Makiyo , 27, four years, when the two were indicted last
month.
But noting that the duo were
repentant, the prosecutors request reduced and suspended sentences
on Thursday, said China Times.
Prosecutor Liu Cheng-Wu even likened
Tomoyori to Wu Sangui, the Ming general who turned traitor and
helped establish the Qing dynasty, apparently after rebel Li
Zicheng seized his concubine Chen Yuanyuan.
He said
Tomoyori, like Wu, had “flown into a rage over a woman” and hit
driver Lin Yu-Chun in an imprudent, but understandable, attempt to
fend for Makiyo.
He asked
for a two-year jail term for Tomoyori, to be suspended for five
years.
He also
said Makiyo had only “stepped” on the driver, did not have a
criminal record and was the breadwinner. He asked for a 16-month
term for her, to be suspended for four years
The Duo
are not off the hook yet. There will be a final hearing
on April 5, when the judge will make a final
ruling.
