Let me just sum up everything:
Singapore Idol is a popularity contest and not a talent
contest. In the end, it is the one with the most popularity
who wins. That explains why terrible singers like Sylvester Sim and
Joakim Gomez can make it so far in previous years.
Like it or not, the selection process for the winner was via
fully democratic means. He who has the greater number of supporters
wins. If Sezali won because he had more supporters, then so be
it. That is what democracy is all about. Capice?
By the way, this is precisely the reason why I stayed away from
SG Idol from the very beginning - because the contest is no true
measure of singing aptitude, and the democratic process of the
contest favours popularity over talent.
