actually I think the issue is more that she may not understand the implications on a child who grows up in a single parent family and what repercussions it has on the child.

Unless it is a necessary situation - one reason why it should be avoided is that studies have shown that many children who grow up with only ONE parent during their childhood suffer from that imbalance psychologically that will affect them when they are growing up.

There is a reason why the traditional family unit has 2 parents - one male one female. I have seen so many children from single parent families that grow up as troubled youths. There are many reasons for this: both from the imbalanced parental input, insufficient time for parenting by a single parent who is also the main breadwinner, as well as existing value systems.

These things should be considered, and planned for before any woman decide to have a child on her own because it really isn't just about herself and what she wants.

But due to the impact of tv in our homes, some of us have adopted western values due to the programs we watch (which are mainly western).

I am not here to debate with you what others cannot accept and what you can accept. Frankly, you are entitled to your own opinion(s), but there is

no need to force your opinion on others.

The way I see it, the folks here were just expressing their opinion about the behaviour of Maia Lee, while you are trying to force your opinion on them

saying that this form of behaviour is acceptable. No need for such Net Nazi behaviour.

What is deemed acceptable does not mean it's acceptable to every one in our society.

Exactly!!! - if she has thought about it, thought about the implications of having a child, planned for it, understood that type of influences that may impact the child from a single parent family - and based from all the above make a decision that she feels would be favourable to her AND her child - then why not?

That is what i mean that a woman should not decide based merely on what SHE wants. She needs to understand how the decision will influence the child as well, and the child should not be simply brought to birth to satisfy a wilful desire just to 'have a child.'

Afterall, shouldnt the basic requirement for 'motherhood' be the ability to think about someone else besides your own self? Not all women manage to achieve that though i think many of our mothers try their best to.

you can't deny that both maia and zidov were irresponsible in not considering the inherent implications of engaging in sexual activities with or without protection.

i doubt both of them were pleasantly surprised to find out about the pregnancy- maia has 1 kid, tyrese, and she's a single mum; one more kid would have proved more burdens for her. while zidov is a martial artist ( not sure whether this qualifies as an occupation) whose most likely free-spririted and hates beinmg tied down. moreover both their incomes are somewhat unstable, so having a kid is the last thing they would want.
