The Hunger (1983)

Catherine Deneuve and David Bowie star in Tony Scotts 1983 cult classic. This chic, stylish couple teaches music by day and feeds on humans at night. The fetching Miriam (Deneuve), a 2000 year old vampire, gave John (Bowie) the gift of eternal life hundreds of years ago, choosing him as her lover and companion. Now, Miriam is drawn to Dr. Sarah Roberts (Susan Sarandon), a specialist in premature aging, just as John begins to age rapidly. Sarah is soon Miriams new lover, and finds herself faced with making the choice of a lifetime.

The White Reindeer [Valkoinen Puera]

PG, B/W, English subtitles, Finland, 1953, 75 min
Directed/Written/Filmed by Erik Blomberg

An ancient legend of Lapland tells of a cursed woman who is transformed into a white reindeer. She wanders the snowfields of the Midnight Sun luring all hunters who cross her path to their deaths. The exotic mood of romance, magic and myth of the beautiful Lapp girl, who is both woman and witch, works beautifully on film and Finland's first international post-war success.

Honeybunz SG

In John Landis' (THE BLUES BROTHERS, ANIMAL HOUSE) dripping black comedy, two American students (David Naughton and Griffin Dunne) on a European vacation wander into a creepy local pub in Northern England and are quickly thrown out. Stranded and alone in the dark countryside, the pair get lost in their search for warm lodging. Little do they know that they are about to be changed forever by an ancient terror as they walk along the moors on a moonlit night. Only one of the students survives a deadly attack by a supernatural beast--at least he thinks he survived, until the next full moon rolls around. Terrific makeup effects (by Oscar winner Rick Baker), clever editing, and raunchy tongue-in-cheek humor made this suspenseful and thrilling horror effort an instant classic.

Repulsion
PG, B/W, UK, 1963, 105 min
Directed/Written by Roman Polanski

A superb movie in the psychological horror line has been accomplish-ed by Roman Polanski in his first English-language film.

In Polanski's words, the guiding idea was "a homicidal schizophrenic running amok in her sister's Condon apartment". More than just a tale of mounting horrors, the film moves the beautiful Carol Ledoux (Catherine Deneuve) from a state of mental torture from the everyday sexual harassment she has to endure and the repulsion she feels towards men and sex, to her total disintegration into madness and retaliatory murder.

Carol's victimization and objectification by men all chip away at Carol's sanity. Carol eventually cracks and perpetrates shocking acts of murder in an almost disassociated state. Polanski pulls out all the stops in his artfully portrayal of her mental disintegration.
