Opening a coffee house

I want to open a cafe after I graduate. Who think it is just a nonsesical idea? Laughing

i know..after i graduate, I would have a degree in Computer Science but I dun like what I am doing now at all...I dun like programming...feels like I am torturing myself everyday doing something I dun like....

But I love making coffee for people Smile That's what I do at my work every Tuesday and Thursday. The more people there are, the happier I get...weird huh?

I want to have those cafe combined with bookshop one...then ppl can order order coffee and then drink it while reading a book Smile

thing about places like that, you need turnover.. lots of turnover in order to make it profitable...

if there are people hanging around after 1 coffee, there's no turnover..

the place where i worked at...got a lot of people lor...esp today until like got not enuff hand sia...got one long queue at around 1230...usually not so many people one but today i think I must have made at least 50++ cups of coffee (mebbe more) in like an hour time...and usually I will close down the coffee bar at 130 but today have to open until 145 because I dun like chasing ppl away...

when i was in australia, 15 minutes before closing, some places were not letting people in already.. even when all they wanted was to make a quick purchase...

hehe...thing is i like doing it dats y i dun mind lingering around a bit more...and just when I was about to pack up, this gal came up with this really pitiful face so I have to take her order haha Very Happy I am too soft-hearted Embarassed

Today was rather exciting cos got new 'recipe' for the coffee ...they added 4 more recipes so I had fun learning how to make em hehe Mr. Green and I got to drink some of them too!

a good attitude is hard to come by these days... i should know... working with a bunch of people with mixed attitudes, the ones with good attitudes are rare and great to work with... and in the end, everyone goes home happy...

while those with bad attitudes make working a pain for everyone Razz

Let me do the neccessary calculations.

Your basic startup cost should be near to at minimum 50k to 150k.

Lease is 1 year, License is 1 year. That makes you tied down to 1 year.

Considering very bad business for one year. You'll need 150k to sustain the bizness.

If you're going thru a franchise program you'll need around 75k to 120k.

1 Staff at 1.2k per month, after cpf, 1.4k. (considering you work for free)
1.4k x 12 = 16.8k
Rent in a place (non-prime land) = 3k monthly
Rent in a place (prime land) = 10k monthly
Taking that you go for non-prime land... 3 x 12 = 36k.

Basically 53k gone.

Renovation 20k.

Ingredients, furniture, utensils, kitchenware, electrical appliances, loose charge, POS system. 10k

Minimum start up cost is near to 80k.

Please remember that this must be in cash, not assets nor properties. Bank loans will further make it hard to make ends meet.

Basically it takes a lot of expertise on Cafeteria and Restaurants.

Menu, Design and Ambience are 3 important point to note.

Prices should be revised according to the market rates to meet competitiveness.
