Scott Adams through his comic strip "Dilbert" says this: the
definition of an expert is what it says in the name card.
Chin Eng says: The true expert is still not born yet.
We all dabble with all sort of stuffs at any point in life. What is
worse that not succeeding in everything we do is sitting around
doing absolutely nothing.
When you say you are not mastering anything, what then are you
gauging your success as? When you are playing with your video
camera, are you comparing your movie to Wong Kar Wai, or Jack Neo
(not even mentioning Jerry Bruckheimer)?
You might want to set some objectives when starting to dabble with
hobbies. Ask yourself what you WANT to achieve, and WHEN you want
to achieve them by. Next ask yourself if this two objectives is
realistic, if not, go back to step 1 and modify the targets. After
that decide if you have the tools to hit the targets, if not, then
you might want to try something else.
We (including this 40 year old uncle) are all learning. So don't
lose heart.
