the_don SG guess wat the koala lovers 'work harder than the super-efficient Germans, the Americans and even the Japanese who are known for the phenomenon of karoshi or 'death by overwork' ' 'Australian employees work an average of 1,855 hours a year, compared with the developed country average of 1,643.' let's see that works out to be.. 35.673076 hours per week. and how many hours normal singaporeans clock per week? MINIMUM of 40 hours per week. oh boy! i rather be 'overworked' in the land of kangas than 'underworked' in sunny singapore click here for the article
Gedanken SG Man, you don't know the half of it - 40 hours a week at the computer, most of it on the forums, and those Friday beer sessions that started at 2 pm were hell! All that for a measly 55 grand a year!
laurence82 SG man, calculating what ged said, an average Aussie works 5 days week and earn nearly $5000 per month??? That makes the avg Singaporean underpaid and overworked by Aussies standard!
True_Xerion SG hmm ... it seems aussies bust their guts at work! No wonder all got extra big guts to compensate!
Poopie-Head SG HAHAHAH~!! Aussies OVERWORKED?! OMFG!! I can't believe it. LOL The shops closed whenever I knock off from work - and only for one nite (thursdays?) they will remain open for longer time. And on Fridays, at 3pm I see them racing off to the beach with a boat towed behind their cars - You call that OVERWORKED? Guess 44 hrs for SG is just right

Poopie-Head SG that's why they hate us. Not only coz of color diff but also we work longer hours, spoil market I tell u I love to work there, so damn relaxed pace. Too bad they got alot of racial prejudice if not I'll like to stay there
True_Xerion SG hmm ... someone shld really fire that statistician!! THEN he/she'll really be working less than the aussie equivalent!
Gedanken SG BWAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just read the article, and it came from the Straits Times (ooooh, the paragon of unbiased truth - remember how Pauline Hansen was supposed to start the Asian Holocaust? ), and the article was from Agence France-Presse - and we all know how the Frogs and Aussies love each other! Poopie-head, you really must have been staying in a seriously ulu place if all the shops closed early and they hated you. I go to satisfy the midnight munchies all the time and the only discrimination I've evnountered in 9 years was an attitude from Greek girl at the immigration department.
Rhonda SG The no. of hours per se doesn't mean a thing... it could be that they work longer hours because: - they're not productive and less efficient; - they procrastinate a lot so they take longer to complete a task; - they have a lot of distractions, eg. phone calls, at work; - they need more training so they have better skills and knowledge to complete their work; etc etc etc. I mean, we have to take all sorts of factors into consideration. I can also dilly-dally and clock in extra hours what! hehehe! I seriously do not believe that they can beat the notorious workaholic Japanese!

It's true that I wasn't working in the biggest cities. I've heard the racist thing is very dependant on which city/town, and it was not too bad where I was, but not totally free from it either. I'm guessing they don't like chinese esp SG chinese. The pace there damn relaxed, very good for health So u've been there for 9 years huh? hmm thinking of migrating (am I a quitter? )
Gedanken SG Huan ying huan ying! I'm in Melbourne (well, actually in Sg until March) - IMHO it's the best place to be in Australia - don't tell SydneyLibrarian I said that, though!
