Middlesbrough’s UEFA Cup adventure
continued with an easy 2-0 victory over a very poor Lazio side at
the Riverside. Two goals from Bolo Zenden, either side of
half-time, were the finer points to a victory which was fully
deserved and which firmly announces Middlesbrough’s arrival on the
continental stage. Elsewhere, Alan Shearer and Craig Bellamy teamed
up to fire Newcastle United past Dinamo Tbilisi with a 2-0 win at
St James’ Park. Graeme Souness’ side dominated throughout and were
never really troubled by the visitors.
