Did you check a concordance before you reply? I checked Strong's Concordance. The same word (poimane) is ALSO USED in (from the NRSV): 1Peter 5 - 1Now as a...

Let's discuss this. Why did Jesus give Simon Peter the key?

Why not

Herzog_Zwei SG

Ok, my original joke was that Peter was chosen as Jesus needed a blockhead(someone ordinary or worse) as the building block of the church.

Can't take a joke? Because Peter was the most steadfast among them. Aka. The Rock.... Razz

But as Honeybunz did state that Peter was the most ordinary of the twelve apostles, any success in the growth of the church is a miracle attributed to God and not to Man.

he chose Mary. Laughing

Kuali Baba SG

Because he was the most vocal? I don't think the other would've said anything if they'd received the revelation instead. Razz

hmm... cause he knew that Peter would deny him? and yet, Peter would show repentence. Which sorts of epitomises our Christian struggle in sinning and repenting?

i dunno.. just a wild guess

I think because Peter was imperfect just like any of us (denied Jesus 3 times and lost his faith while walking on water etc). Jesus wanted someone as imperfect and ordinary as Peter to lead the church, to tell the world that salvation is for sinners.

de_middle SG

he denied knowing jesus 3 times........he wasn't a blockhead Neutral

<Precious> SG

Simple! Jesus chose Peter because he didn't choose any other lor........... Laughing

Honeybunz SG

hmm... that doesn't mean he's smart or not. He was just scared. We can only say he was a coward then.

I guess Peter wasn't very educated (he was just a fisherman). Jesus meant to have someone as ordinary as any lay people to lead the Church. He wanted to send the msg to the world that the Church and Salvation are for everyone, not just the rich and smart ones.

How come SgM never say anything? Confused

ben1xy SG

maybe busy bah, but i usually see him on my msn at night though

de_middle SG

hmm, i'm puzzled why isn't his faith strong enough having seen & witnessed so many miracles all the way from galilee to jerusalem.

I really like the words that the convict on the cross said," Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom."

Even he has more faith than Peter, why?

OMG... I missed a 2 month old thread.... Shocked

It's easy to come up with reasons why He chose Peter.

But now I wonder why He didn't choose the rest of them.

Kuali Baba SG

I thought it was God who chose Peter – “It was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven.” (Matthew 16:17)

pwnz0r SG

Jesus did not choose one. He chose all of them.

Kuali Baba SG

We're refering to the selection of Peter to head the Church on earth.
