SINGAPORE : A woman gave birth in an ambulance on Monday after
the vehicle, on its way to a hospital, was stuck in a traffic
congestion.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received an emergency
call at 7.05pm and arrived shortly to pick up the woman at her
residence in Bukit Timah Road.
Along the way to the hospital, the ambulance was unable to
manoeuvre through the heavy traffic outside the woman's
residence.
Traffic police were called in to facilitate the movement of
traffic, and they managed to escort the ambulance out of the
congested area.
The ambulance was then able to leave by driving against the flow of
traffic. By then, the mother delivered her baby in the
ambulance.
Both mother and daughter were sent to the National University
Hospital.
SCDF says ambulance staff are trained to deal with such situations,
which are not uncommon.
The massive congestion, which was caused by a fallen tree along
Clementi Road, stretched all the way to Bukit Timah Road.
The three-hour traffic congestion was cleared at 9pm. - CNA/de
