SINGAPORE: The murder of eight-year-old Huang Na - a case that
shocked a nation - will soon be played out in Singapore
courts.
75 witnesses are expected to take the stand in a three-week trial
of the man accused of killing the girl.
Took Leng How was arrested following a nation-wide search for Huang
Na last October.
After the extensive search which stretched to Malaysia, she was
later found dead - stuffed in a cardboard box - at Telok Blangah
Hill.
Took, a friend of Huang Na's mother and fellow stallholder at Pasir
Panjang Wholesale Centre, was charged with the girls murder.
Next Tuesday, there'll be a Preliminary Inquiry where the
prosecution will present its case, to see if there's sufficient
evidence to commit Took for trial.
The trial will then take place over three weeks in the High Court
from 11-29 July.
Witnesses will also include some of the stallholders of Pasir
Panjang Wholesale Centre where Huang Na was believed to have been
attacked.
Took is represented by well-known criminal defence lawyer, Subhas
Anandan. - CNA/ir
