Penerbangan Malaysia denies joint venture talks with
Tiger Airways
SINGAPORE : Penerbangan Malaysia (PMB) has denied that it is in any
joint venture talks with Singapore budget carrier Tiger
Airways.
The Malaysian company, which leases aircraft to Malaysian Airline
System, insists it is not negotiating to lease planes to the
Singapore carrier.
PMB is owned by Malaysia's Khazanah Nasional Bhd, the Finance
Ministry's investment company.
Tiger Airways, which is 49 percent-owned by Singapore Airlines, had
earlier announced plans to fly to Malaysia.
Malaysian newspaper reports have been speculating about a PMB-Tiger
Airways tie-up.
A PMB-Tiger Airways alliance would mean tougher competition for
Malaysian-based AirAsia.
Malaysian destinations are the core of AirAsia's operations. -
