SINGAPORE: Tremors were felt in parts of Singapore early Sunday
from a massive earthquake that struck Indonesia's Sumatra island,
the local meteorological services division said in a
statement.
The tremors were "mild" and caused no damage or casualties, an
official told AFP.
Tremors were felt in Toa Payoh, Clementi, Beach Road, Siglap, Meyer
Road and Tanjong Rhu.
Police said they received about 13 calls from these areas, but no
accidents were reported.
The National Environment Agency confirmed the tremors were caused
by an earthquake that occurred off the west coast of northern
Sumatra, about 950 kilometres from Singapore.
Indonesian officials measured the quake at 6.4 on the Richter
scale, while the US Geological Survey said it registered 8.9. -

8.9 is the highest one used since 197x which is 7.6 and killed
over 20K, which is severely underestimated.
