Police officers especially in Singapore are doing a very great
service to act as cushion and also enforcement on law and order, so
that public disorder and crimes are kept minimised and minor.
Police officers when over reactive in its service rendered, might
cause undue distress that is harmful mentally and as a result
generating body illness.
Teaching from buddhism for police officers is to maintain a mind
of neither bad karma nor good karma in its enforcement, and
simultaneously benevolence. Benevolence means when majority of
public is too tension on law for trivial matter, it is not a good
sign to develop a nation's spirit of cordiality, magnanimity and
generosity of mind.
To reiterate the essential points, are to have a mindset of
neither good karma nor bad karma in dealing with potential criminal
or criminal, and simultaneously in benevolence. Without
benevolence, this mindset may become villainous while carrying out
enforcement service, that creating bad karma, and mental illness.
The reason that police officers dare not act villainously are
basically attributing to law protecting public against unruly
officer, rather than from its nature kindness. Thus such mindset
coupled with benevolence is awesome. Conversely, without such
mindset, police officer enforcement will generate harmful effect
towards themselves unknowing in short and long term. Law and order
are subjected to country, era and circumstances, while karma are
beyond govern of country, era, living beings and
circumstances.
