Ilyumzhinov to build a temple in
Buddha's birthplace
Moscow, April 7, Interfax - President of the World
Chess Federation Kirsan Ilyumzhinov is going to build a Buddhist
temple in Nepal village Lumbini, where Buddha Shakyamuni was
born.
He has already received the documents on the land lot and visited
Lumbini, the Nezavisimaya Gazeta daily reports
Tuesday.
The FIDE President was given two packages with holy land in
Lumbini. He conveyed one of them to leader of Kalmyk Buddhist Telo
Tulku Rinpoche: the shrine will be placed at the Central Khurul of
Elista, built by Ilyumzhinov ten years ago.
The edition notes that 19 countries have already built Buddhist
temples in Buddha's Motherland. In the future, these temple
complexes will become a part of the Park of Peace arranged in
Lumbini by the Nepal authorities. On April 3, Ilyumzhinov planted a
young plant of the holy Sal tree there.
Besides, Ilyumzhinov decided to organize the annual chess
championship Buddha Cup under the FIDE auspices. It will
be held in a marble hall of the South Korean Buddhist Temple in
Lumbini. The Nepal government has already supported the idea. The
first Buddha Cup is expected to take place this
year.
