How to prevent 走火入魔??

When I was a child, one of uncle commit suicide by burning himself. It was a ghastly sight when he died. Before this incident happened, he has just become a buddhist monk ..Since I was young, I never really understand what really happen.. From my parent conversation, I overheard that he has practised till 走火入魔 when he was in the temple. This created some kind of 阴影 to me till this day.. I also happen to know someone close who become mentally unstable after practising meditation and started throwing all his Buddha Statue into the dumpster.. I hope someone can advise how to prevent 走火入魔 ??

Simple. By doing household chores like washing your own clothes and cooking your meal and wash your own plates etc, then you will have no time to "走火入魔". Idle people are the one that are prone to these kind of "走火入魔" nonsense.

Not having enough awareness of oneself is one of the problem. I remember I read an article of how Ajahn Chah explained the moment he experienced just before a great awakening in which he personally said he could have gone crazy if not for the great mindfulness he had in those situation. U see, if your awareness is not strong enough, u could have lost yourself in those experiences and can’t come back again. That’s when u have gone too far away without proper awareness of what’s happening.

Also, getting a trustworthy teacher is also important.

Do you have that article? I am really curious what could possibly happen during meditation. I have asked a lot of people who is either buddhist or yoga practitioner about meditation. Most of them have different experience to tell..Some go into a trance state. Some feel nothing. Some start to open 3rd eye and can start seeing spritual stuffs.Some can start communicating with spirits (not necessary ghost). Some can even recall their past life.

Some people get zuo huo ru mo by reading some dangerous Buddhist books. Yesterday I nearly have to starve to death after reading a book on Tibetan vegetarianism. Luckily I quickly give the book away at the Buddhist bookshelf.
