It was rainy on Vesak Day and I was feeling messy in my mind and
rented Ah Boys To Men movie. My mind is too messy that I mistook my
underwear for my swimming trunks.
It can be a cruel
practice to release animals into the wild if the environment and
habitat is not suitable for their survival. Not too long ago, I did
witness the release of whole cages of birds, presumably purchase
from commercial bird shops. Many could not fly away and my guess is
that, they were too weak, sick or diseased. Those that could not
fly away were left to wander around the temple compound. Not a
pretty sight indeed.
It is best not to
have negative thoughts on such issue if it is going to depressed
you. If one feels very strongly about the whole thing, then try
getting into the act of discouraging people carrying out such
practices. It is more fruitful that way. Fortunately, I believe
most, if not all Buddhist temples in Singapore nowadays rarely
carried out such practice anymore.
To have good and bad
days is just going to happen to all of us all our lives. After all,
everything is impermanent and if we look on the more positive side
of impermanence, the bad days will eventually pass us
by.
It was certainly a
wet Vesak Day. But did you notice how fresh the air was when the
rain stopped?
