Dear All ,

I would like to seek your opinion on the above topic as it is greatly troubling to me.

In many religions around the world, there have been practices where animal or human victims have been murdered on the altar in the belief that it will bring blessings.

I am deeply disturbed by all these. Perhaps anyone can kindly share his buddhist beliefs on the topic of blood sacrifice.

The exact karmic effects for each person differs and we won't know as we're not Buddhas. But those who are always involved in killing are likely to be reborn in the lower realms - hell, animal or hungry ghost.

There is negative karma if you are personally involved in its killing - i.e. personally kill, or demand, its killing.

only Buddha don't have karma. even bodhisattvas have some ignorance karma.

that is tough. this means sometimes we can do things without us knowing it will have karmic effects on us.

yes, it's like a child eating sweets, not knowing it will cause tooth decay. an adult know in a long run sweets are no good for the teeth so will eat less or not eat sweets.

Buddha is all knowing like the adult, unenlightened people don't know like the child.

those who use meat are preying to ghosts/妖. devas/gods are vegan. if they smell meat, they will run away. i heard from Ven Hui Lu. use fruits are correct. fruits mean 果 fruition/effect.

I thought I ever read that All Eternal Now said even Buddha is not a vegetarian.

It is true that Buddha (when he was still around) and the early tradition of Buddhism is not vegetarian, vegetarian only developed in later Mahayana period in the tathagatagarbha doctrines.

But Buddha is not some spirit that needs to be fed. We do not 'feed' Buddha. He does not need food. We give offerings of flowers etc out of respect and reverence. He doesn't need anything, we just pay our respects.

Nope. People become ghosts due to bad karma (having done unwholesome deeds in their life) or other reasons such as being too attached to certain things.

By virtue of wholesome karma, you can be reborn in the higher realms, such as human and heaven.

This is why I try to avoid live seafood, I never order live seafood by myself. But I'm not a vegetarian. Frozen meat is still ok.
