三、田野调查
有人说：在末法时代，佛菩萨离我们越来越远，向他们祷告、求助，成功的机率呈曲线下降。
这种说法是否正确？
三千大千世界，般若无所不在，佛菩萨无所不在。一花一草一树一木都在宣示宇宙的真理，只是人们缺少慧眼，不能窥见佛境所发出的灿烂光芒。
见佛与悟道，端视你是否勤加修行。古人说：“易！易！易！百草头上祖师意，拈来无不是，翠竹黄花，无非般若！”
演培法师如是解说：“打开眼睛所看到的，无一不是祖师意，随手拈来的东西，无一不是妙法。如手拿的粉笔，看来没有什么意义，但如了解其缘起性空，当下就是实相，亦即妙法，如是洞达，有何困难？所以在我认为修证是很易的。如不能在百草头上觅取祖师意，以为这是普通的草，那就很难得到悟证。如能领会，眼见耳闻，一草一木，都是妙法，那又什么困难？”（5）
当代的感应故事不多，是因为在电脑的虚拟化时代，人们信仰的“虔诚度”越来越淡薄。我们应该说：世人离开佛菩萨越来越远，而不是佛菩萨离开世人越来越远。
有人说：观音菩萨感应的故事都是发生在古代。现今科学发达，破除迷信，这些感应故事经不起科学检验，就算有，也是虚构的。
于君方为了证明当代还有感应故事发生，于是亲身进行“田野调查”。
1987年3月，她到普陀山访问进香的信徒收集发生在自身或别人身上的感应经历，结果她收集了不少第一手资料。在《观音》一书中，她讲述了三个真实故事，这里仅举一个：
“另一位探访对象是五十岁的宁波渔民，他来普陀已经六次了。他告诉我起初他不信佛教，但是在1977年，他的左手小拇指被蛇咬伤，整条胳臂瘫痪。他前往上海、北京求医，花了4000
元人民币(当时的汇率是1美元兑换人民币3元)仍无法治愈。於是他母亲陪他到‘佛顶’(慧济寺的别称，位於普陀岛最顶端)祈求观音。一个月后的某夜，他梦见被人打了一针，疼痛难当，让他从睡梦中跳了起来，吵醒妻子，不久他的左臂就能活动了。他相信是观音救了他，所以1979年，即文化大革命后普陀山重新开放的第一年，他就来到普陀岛，沿着‘香道’(自法雨寺通往慧清寺的一条上坡山路)三步一拜，直到佛顶，以示对观音的感激。”(6)
在新加坡,观音信仰相当普遍,我相信会有一些感应的故事发生在信众的身上,只是没有人记录下来.

The above statement is not true. Look at the Guanyin Temple at
Waterloo Street near Bugis (四马路观音堂). There are always many people
in there. Imagine there's no attraction in this temple at all, no
food, no music etc. nothing much to offer to the devotees and yet
there are still many devotees. I've estimated that each person
takes about 10 minutes to pray and leave the place and yet there
are always many people at any point of time you go.
Reason being their prayers were usually answered. I experienced
it myself. It is only that this temple does not have a proper
record of the number of devotees or you will be surprised that its
devotees are definitely more than 33,000 people.
Though true Buddhists are not supposed to draw lots but I
understand that the lots in this temple are very true. One of my
friend drew lots in this temple and she drew the same lot number
continuously for about 4 times, she poured out the lots from the
lots holder to check and found that out of so many lots, there was
only 1 lot with that number. I strongly believe Guanyin Pusa is
always 千处祈求，千处应 but of course we have to practice or else how is
Guanyin Pusa going to help us.
