It is Vesak day again and its my first time volunteering @ Kuan Ming San.I was appointed at the Save the Earth Carnival.Started at 2pm with decorating the kids room and making handicraft piggybank with recycled mineral bottle and in the evening helped out to tend stalls at the carnival. My stall sell organic food which I like coz I am a vegetarian and health conscious too.Ha!Made some new friends there-from right,Yan,Irene,Priscilla and me Lisa. They are very fun-loving people.Yan and Irene were tending the Cat welfare stall while Priscilla and I tend the organic stall. All proceeds will goes to charity.

Our location there didn’t have many people walked by so we ended up entertaining ourselves with our own jokes and laughter. We were the most noisest group chatting away non-stop.

Our volunteer session ends at 1130pm.We went to queue up for 3 step 1 bow at the fourth floor. It was a long queue and it was my first time doing it.Was very excited about it.Initially was worried I couldn’t make it as it was already very late and I was feeling exhausted already.Queued for nearly 2 and half hours before our turn to start the 3 step 1 bow.Took another 2 hours to finish the whole journey of 3 step 1 bow around the whole of KMS.I couldn’t believe I could finish the whole journey ending at 5am in the morning. At several stage of the journey,I feel like giving up as blood rushing back and fore in my head and started to feel giddiness. However I pray to buddha to give me the strength and determination to finish the journey.

What make me determined to go for it was when I saw an old lady in her 80s,all white haired and wrinkled face was doing it and another old lady holding a walking stick also did the 2 hours journey. It was a touching scene.I told myself I can do it too and the thought of dedicating the merits to my family and friends boost my confidence.

I notice there are quite a few postings in this forum on the 3 Step 1 Bow ceremony conducted each year at the Kong Meng San Temple. This ritual has become a fixed feature of this temple since it first started it I believe, sometime in the early ’80. So far I have already missed performing it about 5 times. In the earlier days it was performed mainly by elderly folks who have taken the 3 refuges. It has since than grown into an all night affair. It is heartening to see many young people joining this ritual nowadays. It is a good sign that the faith is well and is attracting many younger generation of devotees.
