sw: "folk buddhists and folks religions" is a confusing word to me. as u are the one keep saying it. i where got say folks religions? i not sure wat u mean....

六根清淨，一塵不染，這叫僧寶。如果出了家還有自私自利、還有名聞利養、還有是非人我，那你就錯了，完全錯了，為什麼？這全是染污。我們把這些染污統統放下，身心清淨，是這個意思，淨而不染，這是世尊對出家弟子的要求。

這些出家弟子沒做到，我們這些在家弟子如何應對？他沒做到是他的事情，與我不相干，各人因果各人承當。

我們對他恭敬，為什麼對他恭敬？他的表法提醒我，這就是對我的恩德。我們一看到他這個樣子，立刻就想起淨而不染，我自己清淨不染，這就對了，他清不清淨沒有關係，與我不相干，所以一切恭敬就對了。

你要問，那個作惡的人，無惡不作的，為什麼還對他恭敬？恭敬是恭敬他的自性。大乘教裡面說得很好，「一切眾生本來是佛」，他是眾生，他本來是佛，他現在造作種種不善，他迷了。我在迷的時候不是跟他一樣嗎？

現在我覺悟了，他還在迷。覺悟的人對迷惑顛倒的人恭敬，迷惑顛倒的人對覺悟的人不恭敬，這是正常的現象。

我們要不是佛菩薩、祖師大德這裡常常教誨，我們也不知道，我們的毛病習氣也都出來了，錯了，真的錯了。

你看看現在學佛的同修，對蚊蟲螞蟻都知道恭敬：蚊蟲菩薩、螞蟻菩薩。那個人做點壞事，我看不至於像蚊蟲螞蟻這樣，你為什麼對他不尊敬？那你不就是有分別、有執著了嗎？你迷了，你沒覺悟；你覺悟，一樣也要稱他菩薩，恭恭敬敬，這就對了。修行要在這些地方，這是細行，要在這裡修，才真正能夠幫助自己提升。

I wonder if we continue to respect 不如法的人, will there be any "side effect"? As if we are encouraging and agree with their wrongful act. I know it is good for our practice to continue respecting them but is it good for them and Buddhism ? I've heard followers from other religion commented that sometimes Buddhists abuse compassion 滥用慈悲.

May be I am not enlightened so I can't fully understand why we have to respect 不如法的人 or respect the evil people. I guess only those who are enlightened know better. Afterall , all these wisdom verses are coming from the high monks. The verses must be true. I'm yet to understand.

One who can become good
is not truly evil.

One who can become evil
is not truly good.

(If even Mara can become a Buddha,
there is no true Mara-nature;

resepct does not mean we praise their evil deeds. as we say in chinese 敬而远之.

Ten Practices and Vows of the Bodhisattva Samantabhadra

礼敬诸佛，称赞如来。

First, Pay homage and respect to all Buddha.
Second, Praise the Tathagatagarbha.

诸佛 not quite same as 如来

One can respect everyone, even if they did evil deeds.
But one cannot praise their evil deeds. that's why Buddha use Tathagatagarbha and Buddha to differentiate between respect and praising.

sort of understand now already what Buddha and old master meant to be silience 默摈, as totally no use to oppose. can just let it tried down by itself. and we just do our Buddhist part.

佛住世，以佛为师，佛入灭后，以谁为师？佛答：「以戒为师。」凡佛弟子，不管在家出家，皆以戒为师。二、佛住世时，依佛安住，佛入灭后，依何为住？佛答：「依四念处安住。」乃心之安住，非身之安住。三、恶性比丘，如何治之？佛答：「默摈治之。」莫理他，管好自己，作好榜样，彼自生惭愧，端正己之三业。四、佛灭后，结集经典，一切经首当安何语，以取信未来众生？佛答：「当安如是我闻等」。

Just the waves of the sea, it rises and it ebbs, so combination of folk and buddhist will decline as need for it diminishes. Buddhism with the emphasis on insight will ascend. It indeed has as in the west where the conditions are ripe, but here a little bit slower, as there is not a void like in the west.

Our responsibility to to make the Dharma known not harbour thoughts nor rejoice for any forms of beliefs or religions to decline.

if a group of apples belong to me, and i wish to decrease those that are bad and increase those that are good, is different from wishing to decrease those bad apples that belong to others. it's same as wishing to get rid of those bad habits within me.

Folk religions needs no respect ?? No matter whose apples are that ..

such a though should never arise, all u need to do is spread the Buddha's teachings to them and let them experience the dharma themselves.

I would have never said "BETTER STILL" for any forms of beliefs, religions to decline, dare not even harbour such a thought.

what are you talking? Something like Ven jingkong's unique teaching of "we must learn non buddhist sutras then can learn buddhist sutras?"

Or recite bible and quran instead of Amituofo to rebirth in Pureland?

as i also don't get from the replies, perhaps u didn't got my meaning of "folk-believe-pray-pray buddhists"? as if u don't advocate the declined of such pray pray "superstitious" buddhists, then u mean u wish to see more of such "buddhists" who do not understand the true meaning of Buddhism?

As a Buddhist, I have no wish to see the decline or rise in any forms of beliefs or religions. You should not even harbour such thoughts in the first place, where is the compassion and tolerance you have been talking about then?

Didnt you on one hand say that Dizigui is good moral teachings and see all other religious founders as manifestations of Guan Yin Bodhisattva? But how come you see these "pray pray Buddhists" as wrong while those engage in christianity, muslims are deem right then? Its contradicitng to yourself.

My job as a Buddhist is to continue to ensure I spread the Buddha's Dharma and let the dharma touch lives and here spefically make it clear, only the Buddha's teachings not Laozi, Jesus or Mohd Teachings.

不如法的人也是人.. haha..

They are just temporarily deluded sentient beings who have the same nature as Buddha and has the potential of fully-enlightenment. Regardless of race, religion or belief, we are all the same. If we can let go of our 分別 , 執著, our heart will be more opened and less cloudly. The world will perhaps be less chaotic and be more peaceful. No discrimination. No hate. No war.

Isis, it may deem right that there are similarities btw human and religions, however to cause our own buddhist teachings to be mixed up by non buddhist teachings, this is no longer a problem of fen bie and zhi zhuo.

As a Buddhist, we rely only on the Buddha and his teachings solely as our refuge and guide.

don't drag other religions into our "family" matter. their decline is still their decline at the moment or of another issue altogether.

It's also contradicting to say that on one hand u wish to ensure one spread the Buddha's Dharma correctly, while on the other hand one wish to see the decline in "MCK sect".

nay, to make it clearer, i still wish that MORE Buddhists can understand the true meaning of Buddhism and NOT be superstitious in praying for lottery winning etc.

ps: wondering if u are a singaporean that grow up here or are u an immigrant from Taiwan? as ur chinese and typing speed of chinese seem to be better than the average singaporean.

I have always wanted to spread the Buddha Dharma correctly but now you accuse me of wanting the "MCK sect" to decline, please kindly cut and paste from my postings if this is true, otherwise I would demand a public apology, not to grow my ego but the my integrity in participation of discussions here.

I have never said I wanted "MCK sect" to decline nor any other religions to decline, this was never my concern. My concern has always been the decline of Buddhism is due to other evangelistic religions and impure "buddhist" teachings like Ven Jing Kong. (Note: I do not agree Jesus, Mohd, Laozi, Kongzi etc etc to be manifestations of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas)

Also note, no matter which form of beliefs, you should never harbour thoughts for them to decline, this is basic bodhi aspiration and respect, if you can respect and even consider bibical, taoist, quranic and confucianist teachings as part of Buddhism, why can't you accept these group of people to be some outcasted?

By wishing to see them decline, will they come towards and embrace the teachings of the Buddha?

When I say respect here, I respect all religions and their beliefs, even for Ven Jingkong's un-buddhistic teachings which I disagree, I harbour no wish for it to decline, all i need to do is to reason out why his teachings are not inline with Buddhism and Pureland teachings and list out the proper Buddhist and Pureland teachings.

Sinweiy, do you rely on the Bible and Quran to gain rebirth in Amituofo's Pureland? If so, did Buddha or any of our Pureland masters taught so?

Am i deem as very narrow minded for only printing Buddhist Sutras instead of all religious scriptures?

sw: to me, i think some teachings are too high to understand, see Lotus Sutra Expedient Devices posted, hence the Buddha waited for them to leave before He can speak.
