saw this show 百年虚云, also got something related.
Earth Store bodhisattva choose to be in hell conditions instead
of good conditions. saying if i don't go to hell who
will. more bodhisattvas and Buddhas are in bad suffering
places to help ppl than in good places.
think this is more on the ch'an side. there's even this koan on
"Killing the Buddha on the Road".
on the more precept school and tientai side, they are more
strict. they have to be very respectful. they can't put sutras on
the floor; point their leg toward the sutra; also cannot fart in
monasteries.
all in the flipping of one thought.
