Why do our elderly need to work so hard for a living ?

It is a very sad scene at times when an elderly person collecting plates from food courts, or hawker centers, or collecting soft drink cans from rubbish bins, or selling tissues paper. Their dignity bending so low though MM said everyone said every Singaporean should work till Age 80. But, why elderly in many other countries e.g. China are able to play tai chi in the park collecting RMB1500 per month from Pension, Candanian elderly enjoying themselves at the club with candanian dollar $700 to $1000 monthly,etc. But, the Singapore elderly will need to work the longest hours on their feet. Do you think the Growth & Share fund of S$600 to S$1000 once a year going to help our elderly. Tomorrow is Mother's day, but many old mum out there will still need to collect or wash plates after many diners after celebration .....

But I dont know......maybe the kids are also poor and thusly unable to send money to the elderlies.....

I believe such things is not the responsibility of the government......

First, it is the responsibility of the self individual (the elderlies should save money when they were young)

Second, it is the responsibility of the family (the elderlies should be helped by their families)

policies do affect lives ...some gain from it, some lose...and all should be balanced as much as possible...thats their common areas of responsibilities and cannot be left in the lurch
