Pilgrimage to sacred sites of Yeshe Tsogyel Sep27-Oct8 and
Oct10-Oct29
In Vajrayana Buddhism, pilgrimage encompasses both a personal
and a transpersonal dimension. It is an integral part of the
path to enlightenment as well as a skillful means
of spiritually benefiting the world and all beings. Guru
Rinpoche himself was pilgrim. He meditated in places of geomantic
power, natural and man-made. With Yeshe Tsogyal, he traveled to all
the Himalayan sacred sites, concealing his spiritual treasures for
the future benefit of others. Later on, the greatest
Tibetan masters were also pilgrims, often undertaking several
long and arduous pilgrimages during their lifetimes and writing
guides to pilgrimage sites. And last but not least, the Tibetan
people themselves, despite unfavourable circumstances, have
continued to carry out their pilgrimage practices to this
day.
Jnanasukha and Trans Himalaya, the first to offer pilgrimages
dedicated to the sacred sites of Khandro Yeshe Tsogyal in
Tibet, have organized two private itineraries for
2010.
Khandro Yeshe Tsogyal, Victorious
Ocean of Wisdom, is the founding mother of Tibetan Buddhism and the
foremost female master of Tibet. A fully enlightened buddha as well
as an important historical figure of 8th century Tibet,
translations of her biography are currently available in English
under the titles Mother of Knowledge and Lady of the
Lotus Born.
The pilgrimage destinations of Yeshe Tsogyal's life story are
intimately connected with the renowned spiritual hermitages of the
Tibetan heartlands — from her birthplace at Tsogyal
Latso in Drakyul, to the sanctuaries of Yemalung, Chimphu,
and Zhoto Tidro where she perfected her practices; to the
Crystal Cave of Yarlung Sheldrak, one of her foremost repositories
of hidden teachings (terma), and finally to the remote hermitage of
Zabbulung in Western Tibet where she attained the supreme
transformation of the rainbow body.
