The basic purpose of any dharma practice is to purify all karmic
obstacles, to increase and enhance one's accumulation of merits and
wisdom and puja is one of the most helpful ways of
practice....
Even the simple offering of a lamp to all the Buddhas &
Bodhisattvas with the sincere motivation of wanting all beings to
be free from disturbing emotions gives immeasurable merits, as
taught in several Sutras, such as "Sutra of the Essence of the
Earth", "Tune of Brahma Sutra", "Arya Maitreya Sutra" and also the
"Root Tantra of Chakrasamvara"..
The lamp symbolizes the light of wisdom that dispels the darkness
of ignorance.
