aah i see.. pardon my ignorance.
i thought Romance of the Three kingdom is a historical novel,
which is fiction based heavily on historical events. The Records of
the Three Kingdom (San Guo Zhi) should be the actual history
records? Regarding the manifestations of Kwan Yu as Pujing, that
was from Romance, and not San Guo Zhi?
Perhaps thats where many got confused and regards fiction as
historical facts which leads to the Kwan Yu being worshipped as
deity?
I dont really know la, just my thoughts.
In Buddhism, it is very specific. Guan Yu was killed, he became
a spirit who wanted his head back. A monk saw him, and ask him,
then how about the numerous other people you killed, who are they
going to find their heads from?
Hearing this, the spirit immediately took refuge, upheld the
five precepts, and vowed to protect Buddhism.
This protector is then revered in Chinese Buddhism as a dharma
protector. You'll see his statue at the doors of temples.
