You should earn some more $ before thinking of getting a car.Road tax,insurance,erp,parking, etc.
Once you have enough,I do not advise you to get a COE car as these offer less protecton in an accident(which drivers around your age are prone to).Since you want a 1.6 car,how about a 2001 car(during the $101 COE period).They are going for a few k less than 30k.Warning:these cars might drink

ya, nsf really shldn’t think abt getting a car yet. are you a regular? hw wld u have the financial capabilities after national service? even if you find a job immediately after national service, a car is still very much a liability. you could do so much more with ur money.. trust me.. getting a car now is tempting but it doesnt make economical sense when u dun really need it that much.

a more than 7yr old car dun need to change spare part, no, no need at all.

a 19yr old with 1 month old licence driving a more than 7 yr old car, insurance less than S$2k for sureeeee, unless the insurance company disclaims saying the policy owner pays for everything else tbh

The parking per year $300. You park a few hours at Suntec/Orchard = S$10 already easily.

TP is not going to book you, as you are privileged driver in Singapore.

A friend of my spend about $600 a mth for petrol+installment+parking+insurance+road tax
Monthly run only 1000km +/-.

Road tax only about $100 per yr
Insurance only $1300 - ( 26 yr old 0%NCD )NTUC

If its an OPC maybe can survive on 500 a mth.

Other than that, forget it.

But dun forget wear n tear, like tyres, brakes, bulbs, servicing,
On average need to set aside about $100 per mth for these things.

Your family seems to be quite rich, and if they can chut money for you in case got extra expenses that month, then no prob I guess.

Are you into a bit of modding n racy cars? Or just want a car to drive ard? If former, then prob get EG Civic lor... else just get the jazz or wadeva. But most impt, drive safe since u new driver.

If can do w/o car even betta.. save up e cash, u'll need it in future (unless papa got fortune waiting for u).

if really want to drive, and just for cheap transpot,
get a small cc COE car, to reduce 150% road tax, simple car cheap to maintain, not much problematic. Pay cash down, so no interest, agreement fees etc. Buy third party insurance, and drive safe. dun go so much to CBD.
Get a car like Starlet, etc. i think ur budget 500 should be no prob.

but of coz u should choose the car that is reasonably good.
if sway sway something bad happen, dun repair if minor damage, if major damage, scrap the car and get back the paper value.

dunno why many ppl here so high tone. maybe they all driving >100k cars.

During NSF, u have not much time to drive, so patrol, parking, ERP will not be so much. and no need to show off, so cheap own transport is possible. you also dun have long loan commitment on car loan.

during my school, my car budget was less than 500 and was really fine. i live in EC outside city area, free parking at school, when go to city once a while usually in evenings or weekends. patrol + parking never reached 200.
