Its probably just semantics.
Still I can see where you are coming from. The simplest form of
translation of ai(4) to English is love. Love has a wide range
of meanings ranging from parental to platonic to purely sexual. It
also carries a connotation of attachment, of a condition. (God
loves me this I was told, but what will happen to me if I dont
love Him back?)
Ci(2), or Compassion on the other hand, is defined in the
dictionary as a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another
who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to
alleviate the suffering. By its very definition, compassion is
unconditionally extended to all suffering beings. Buddhas
compassion is similarly extended to all beings, Buddhists or
otherwise. It is for this reason that I think compassion is a
much nobler sentiment than love.
But as I said in the beginning, this maybe nothing more than
semantics
So no need to feel too disturbed by it.
