The term was coined by Bhutan's King Jigme Singye Wangchuck in 1972. It signaled his commitment to building an economy that would serve Bhutan's unique culture based on Buddhist spiritual values. Like many moral goals, it is somewhat easier to state than to define. Nonetheless, it serves as a unifying vision for the Five Year planning process and all the derived planning documents that guide the economic and development plans of the country.

While conventional development models stress economic growth as the ultimate objective, the concept of GNH claims to be based on the premise that true development of human society takes place when material and spiritual development occur side by side to complement and reinforce each other. The four pillars of GNH are the promotion of equitable and sustainable socio-economic development, preservation and promotion of cultural values, conservation of the natural environment, and establishment of good governance.

learn a great lesson from a frog....

It turned out that the winning frog was deaf!

another interesting note:

a disciple asked Confucius, if can name 3 elements that are most important in the development of a country. Confucius named army, food and trust.
then disciple reply, maybe 3 is too many, how abt 2? Confucius said, easy, don't want the army. then disciple reply again, how abt just one. Confucius think for a while and said, don't want the food. left with trust of the people. no food, hungry is still okay, but no trust and or dignity, country simply breaks down.

in Buddhism, xin is the root of all dharma (dao yuan gongde mu).

today's one got talk abt Su dong po...a buddhism story. haha...

Su dong po and a ch'an monk doing sitting meditation.
Su dong po asked monk, what Su dong po's sitting position look like.
ch'an monk reply, " look like Buddha."
Su dong po very proud tell the monk that he look like cows**t.
then Su dong po return to his sister and tell her the event.
sister laugh at Su dong po's Stupidity.
"people, the monk's mind is full of Buddha, so he see u as Buddha...but your mind le? "

If my memory serves me right. The professor says that the mind reflect who you are, what you do and say.

It does alight with karma in a sense.

anyway, the last show talk about the summary of the progress of human.

roughly mean:
Until the age of 15, remember to study and recieving of informations.
By the age of 30 to 40, time to stabilize and become more confident.
By the age of 40 to 50, you become more and more not confuse.
By the age of 50 to 60, you should be able to know your "destiny", in the sense that you are more understanding to people and nature.
By the age of 60 to 70, you shouldn't be blaming people for who they are. If he's a child, you also use a child like understanding to listen. If he's an adult, you also use an adult understanding to listen. puting yourselve in their shoes and situation. be more encompassing.
By the age of 70 onward, you should be able to go with the flow of what you pleases and not bound by rules.

Yup, I caught the show yesterday. I like yesterday's topic. It was good.

By the age of 60-70, one should be truly compassionate and sincere in listening to people. The empathy expressed when listening to people's woes and troubles is not neither superficial nor preachy. The words seek to soothe first, then enlighten later.
