since you are a devout buddhist, i thought this must be made known to all buddhists through yourforum...

clicky here => Giant Statues blown up

these are not the ones in Afghanistan which were tragically destroyed.. this one is in Pakistan..

the story is old.. the statue was damaged.. but today's news over BBC radio tells that the statue has been totally blown up...

for your information and hopefully, everyone can be informed, and from knowing this, maybe a movement or our support of any movement out there can be started to try to stop this..

even i, a catholic, am saddened by this...

May I know the reason given by the Pakistani authority for the blowing up of Buddha statue?

Is it the same reason that Islam forbid statue of deity or god? If it is really this reason, then all I can say that some Muslims in Pakistan have utterly no respect for other religions and they DO NOT deserve our respect at all.

Minus point for the image of Islam.

Sooner or later they will suffer their retribution. This is what Buddhists known as karma.

wonderamazement SG

Agreed. x2 Confused

Spartans SG

I know I shdnt be saying this.

About the 'karma' and retribution stuff on other religion. But still I want to add on something.

Look at Ahfangistan Taliban. What happened to them after they destroyed the giant anicent Buddha statues? Evil or Very Mad They had being overthrew by Americans. This is karma!

I have an urge to shout to them: " Serve you right, morons!"

KABOOM!

They got nukes who can touch them? Laughing

What the fark is the big fuss over a statue? Is the dharma transmission in the statue? If it’s old and falling over, might as well blow it up and let travellers in the region travel with safety.

Ancient Giant Statues! i not sure abt the Pakistani one but I know the Afghan statues have 2000 years of history.

It is part of HUMAN history, not just the Buddhists.

I give you an analogy (but dun flame me for it).
Let say we destroyed those long history holy mosques in the holy land in Middle East for no apparent reason. How will they feel?

(Note: Talibians destroyed the statues because they believed the Qu'ran say NO statue of god and deity allowed.)

Herzog_Zwei SG

If the mosques are falling apart and there's no money to restore them, kindly destroy them. The local people will be grateful as they can move around in safety.

mahawarrior SG

Well, it's just a statue. If you want to put it more crudely, it's just a piece of rock in the shape of a person.

By no way can a piece of rock help us on our path to enlightenment.

Hello Kitty SG

aw, come on.

knowledge is good.

let it not bother anyone.

Beyond Religion SG

The way I see it, enlightenment and religion is not the issue here. There are 2 issues:

1. An important piece of humanity's cultural/ historical heritage has been destroyed.
2. The callousness displayed by a group of religious bigots

I am saddened by #1 above, but what truly is disturbing is #2. If there are more and more such people roaming the earth.... I suppose this tie back to the dharma ending age we are now in.

If so, lets all demolish the old buildings in Singapore which does not provides economical value to Singapore

All agree?

they are actually very easy to kill........

u drop one bomb, can already

it's only that the US no balls, and there are still innocent people there

mahawarrior SG

Actually, I had been thinking...we should actually be praying for those who blew up the statue, not cursing them and hoping bad karma will fall upon them.

I guess bad karma will fall upon them. All the more we should pray for them.

eagle SG

Having a statue is not having a statue. Not having a statue is having a statue.

The presence of Buddha is the heart, not in the form of a statue.

Herzog_Zwei SG

You forgot to add the other pre-existing condition, that there is no resources to repair said buildings and their deteoriation is a safety concern.

pie SG

Actually, this is exactly what's happening in Singapore.

laurence82 SG

Sad but true

Spartans SG

haha.

Existence is equal to no existence. No existence is equal to existence. One has to look from different perspectives and paradigms to comprehend the meaning.
