cause and effect of physical world is cause and effect of physical world. but karma is cause and effect of the mental sphere, ya. /\

Is there such a thing as a bad karma? Does karma ever exist only in the mind?

How come some people do so many bad things only to experience no bad karma or even good karma as we call it ?

Any comments ?

i do believe in karma. It’s a matter of whether u had experienced it.

An Eternal Now SG

Yes, karma is totally real.

However, karma will not ripen immediately. It may ripen decades later, and many of the times it will only ripen in future lifetimes.

Similarly a good person may meet many bad fortunes, because of bad karma from past lives.

And furthermore we have immeasurable past lives, aeons of past lives...

i read in some books , they said a female's route to buddhism is harder .

even buddha have many past lives before attaining buddhahood .

An Eternal Now SG

It is harder because of the many inconvenience and pain that a woman has to go through compared to man.

But a woman can certainly be as great a practitioner as a male. I've seen many enlightened women in modern days. There were a whole lot of female arhats in Buddha's times as well. My local dharma teacher is also female.

In summary there are lots of female Bodhisattvas and Arhats from past to now.

I live in a world of Karma everyday and always remember,’What goes around comes around’.For good to exist there must surely be evil that is the answer to why some people have to play the evil part but in reality the bad guys always suffer more while inflicting pain to others.

goldevil SG

my dharma teacher is a male .

Herzog_Zwei SG

I believe that Karma as believed in Buddhism is very unreal.

An Eternal Now SG

That is your belief and assumption.

But before you witness the power of karma, do remain an open mind. There are lots of people who have personally experienced the functioning of karma. Again, like Ajahn Brahmavamso said, do your practise and you will realise for yourself.

Forget about religion and just be alive enough to know that the law of Karma applies

here's a consolidated excellent documentation of karma:

Good, Evil and Beyond
Kamma in the Buddha's Teaching

if u need to understand karma, pls go thru, it's explained in detail and there's also given examples.

i dunch believe in karma. but dat doesn't mean ill go out and do bad things. Laughing

Herzog_Zwei SG

True but AEN insists that everything is bounded to karma.

An Eternal Now SG

What do you mean by 'everything'?

Inanimate things are not bound up by karma or rebirth.

Ito_^ SG

its.. uh.. ok? Laughing

something to think about on views

"Monks, there are these two conditions for the arising of wrong view. Which two? The voice of another and inappropriate attention. These are the two conditions for the arising of wrong view."

"Monks, there are these two conditions for the arising of right view. Which two? The voice of another and appropriate attention. These are the two conditions for the arising of right view."

from Ghosa Suttas, Anguttara Nikaya 2.125-126

Herzog_Zwei SG

Tell that to a virus or bacteria. Mr. Green

An Eternal Now SG

Huh why?

Anyway virus and bacteria are not considered as sentient beings, they do not have consciousness and the aggregates of a sentient being, and do not undergo rebirth and so on. So they do not have karma.

Herzog_Zwei SG

Are they inanimate? And what makes you so sure they do not undergo rebirth while humans do?
