Thusness SG

hahaha....destined! But I think this is a good idea. Wonder what is needed to get this buddhist scout movement going. Smile

earthling82 SG

To get the buddhist scout going, the supporting conditions are the scout trainers and a willing Buddhist center to house them. I'm now talking to a 2nd Buddhist center to start another.

Internationally Buddhist in scouting have been around for more than 80 years. There are also Muslim and Jewish in scouting. In spore, the predominant scouting occurs in schools. Now trying to do this outside and in a religious environment

Anyone interested can pm me or post in this thread

Isis SG

Got Buddhist Rovers or ODAC in singapore anot ?

earthling82 SG

There's only SBF scouts now.

But anyone interested, perhaps can discuss in this thread. I may be able to work out something if there's enough supporting conditions.

An Eternal Now SG

SBF scout movement is completely unrelated to other scout movements rite... cos it wont make sense if we are since scout movement is by itself Christian and Catholic related... if there is Buddhist scout movement the scout promises have to change (serve God and republic)

earthling82 SG

Its the real thing under spore scout association since I was the one who started the ball rolling. There are Buddhist scouts in Taiwan, US, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, HongKong and Australia for over 80 years. Pity Spore always last to start. It took me lots of pain.

In Taiwan, Fo Guang Shan, under the leadership of ven Xing Yun founded a large following of Buddhist scouts. Among them are Sangha undergoing the wood badge course.

Post some pictures tonight Smile

Heres an excerpt

As for the youth of Fo Guang Shan, since its inception ten years ago, BLIA has established over 100 Young Adult Divisions and more than 70 Scout Troops worldwide

Thusness SG

I am quite ignorance about the movement. Thank you for the info. Smile

Scouting in the Buddhist Community
Overview

Scouting serves an important role in youth development in the Buddhist community. Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, Varsity Scout teams, and Venturing crews chartered to Buddhist organizations can be found throughout the United States. Scouts can participate within units chartered to Buddhist organizations or as members of units chartered to other organizations.

Buddhist youth have participated in Scouting for more than 80 years. Since 1920, with the formation of Troop 4 by the Fresno Buddhist Church, young Buddhists in America have enjoyed the benefits of Scouting.
Organization

The Buddhist Churches of America administers the religious emblems program for all Buddhist denominations in America. Founded in 1899, the Buddhist Churches of America is affiliated with Jodo Shinshu Hongwanji-ha in Kyoto, Japan. The Buddhist Churches of America National Committee on Scouting works with the religious leaders of the Buddhist community to develop the Buddhist religious program.

The National Buddhist Committee on Scouting works closely with the religious relationships director of the Boy Scouts of America to promote a harmonious relationship between all religious denominations and organizations.
Religious Emblems

Any registered Scout who has fulfilled all of the requirements for the Metta emblem or Sangha emblem can receive the recognition appropriate to his course of study.

Metta Emblem. Metta is a Buddhist term meaning loving kindness and goodwill. This word was selected as the name for the Cub Scout religious emblem with the hope of nurturing boys to relate to all things with loving kindness and goodwill.

Sangha Emblem. Sangha means Buddhist brotherhood. The Sangha emblem program gives the Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, and Venturer practical guidance in achieving the spiritual pledge made in the Scout Oath and Law, through the application of Buddhist teachings. The program teaches the basic tenets of Buddhism as they relate to the activities of daily life. The program stresses the importance of both harmonious relationships and the universal brotherhood of all living beings.
The Goal of Buddhism

The goal of all Buddhists is enlightenment through understanding of the reasons and causes of suffering. Awareness of impermanence and of oneself and compassion toward others are basic and essential elements of Buddhism.
Buddhist Practices

The fundamental doctrine of Buddhism is the Four Noble Truths, which are:

* Noble Truth of Suffering
* Noble Truth of the Cause of Suffering
* Noble Truth of the Cessation of Suffering
* Noble Truth of the Path that leads to the Cessation of Suffering

The last of the Four Noble Truths is also referred to as the Noble Eightfold Path, which is another basic foundation of Buddhism.

The Noble Eightfold Path is the practice of

* Right Views
* Right Thoughts
* Right Speech
* Right Conduct
* Right Livelihood
* Right Effort
* Right Mindfulness
* Right Meditation

World Buddhist Scout Brotherhood

The World Buddhist Scout Brotherhood (WBSB) began as a means to facilitate religious activities among Buddhist Scouts.

As the founders of the WBSB noted, many other religions had set up their own Scout groups and furthermore, the establishment of a Buddhist Scout network would be a valuable in the organisation of global Buddhist Scout activities.

Members of the WBSB include Bhutan, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan and Thailand. Although the WBSB was declared active with the election of its chairman on July 21, 2004, its status with the World Scout Committee is still pending.

Religion-affliated scouting is really a joke.
Tell me when in an emergency:
Are Buddhist scouts able to hunt for animal protein which is absorbed faster than plant protein?
Are Buddhist scouts trained to defend themselves from aggresive predator animals and if need be, kill such animals?

bohiruci SG

herzog , you are ignored

hahahahaahah
