NT2s bigoted mindset has set me thinking, and I have decided to
look inward to examine myself on where I stand on the issue of
religious harmony and tolerance.
I am not sure what I have discovered.
I have always been under the impression that I am religiously
tolerant person. I have also been under the impression that a
religiously tolerant person will respect the other faiths and
religions. Therefore, I am surprised, for when I asked myself if I
respect the other faiths, my answer is not a resounding and
unqualified YES.
Specifically, my respect of religions other than my own does not
extend to the monotheistic religions. It is extremely difficult to
respect something that is going to send me on an eternal holiday
Down Under, for no other reasons that I dont believe in it.
However, I respect the followers of these religions rights and
freedom to believe in what they believe, even if I do not respect
that belief itself. And this is the reason I try not to criticize
their choice of religions and incite flames.
This is the question that I wish to ask of my fellow Buddhists in
BWB: Am I intolerant?
