Should I be ashamed of myself?

Hi im 15 years old, but im not really devoted to buddhism, i mean that I dont actually go forward and understand my own religion,learn about it and appreciat.

Like for example, i just went there and pray because my parents or my grandparents instructed me to do it, i dont actually see the meaning behind it.

Should i be asahmed of myself?

But it is VERY important to be nice and respect your parents. As a 15 yr old, your parents is responsible for your life at this time. Respect them.

For children, it is important to uphold family ties and values. Maintain your good family operating culture a must.

Not just for yourself, your family, your community/friends, your country but also the world at large. Not to erode away asian important family culture.

Hi, maybe sometime you should really try to find out what Buddhism is about, by picking up an introductory book to Buddhism, or you can read up on the net from websites like www.buddhanet.net - see the Beginner's section, which has a lot of resources. Buddhism is a way of life, of blissful and liberated living and also gaining the wisdom to see things as they really are.

Well its not a question of whether u're ashamed or not ashamed, but it wld be quite a waste not to learn the deep and profound truths that buddha taught.

Anyway I am not any older than you.. just a year older.

you acknowledge you were ashamed of yourself. that's a good strong start. the common problem is, people can't acknowledge themselves, they can't see their own obstructions, ignorances or weaknesses or poisons. i myself also sometimes can't see my own. but who says it is impossible or possible?

to any one of us here, we surely won't look at your situation as shameful. why? because what is "ashamed"? what is there that is really existing? can you touch them? it is the mind that creates things and also do not create things. later on, you will come to realise things are actually not there as you expected. changes takes place every second. now you see it, now you don't.

it is never too late to know the dharma and also it is never late to learn about buddha's teaching. the thing is the length of time one gets to understand. even a man at death bed realises all the time wasted and ashamed of what he has done, opens up his mind to listen to even a bit of dharma or buddha's teaching, it is like a clearing to all past confused or false knowing.

My dharma teacher says the same thing, she knew dharma only around 40+ or 30+? and met my shi fu less than two decades ago. She is now 50+.. anyway I think it's never too late to start.

But if one is young, so much more the better! We musnt waste our life away in ignorance..

Whatever our age is, most important is, we must live every moment in mindfulness, and not in ignorance and delusion. Those who are not mindful regardless of their age are already like dead people.

Furthermore we cannot take chances to think in a way 'maybe when I grow old then I will start practising Buddhism', because Buddhism isn't for the old, it isnt just about sitting meditation and chanting all day, and Dharma should be practised in the midst of our living - in this way our wisdom grow and our lives will be blissful. Whats more, how can we be sure we will live till old age?
