Paying too much respect to monks??

often we see followers (xin duan) like to respect master monks but in most days i see it is getting beyond boundaries - the way they donated too much money to the monks, bring them to expensive vegetarian restaurant to eat, go shopping centre, some even worse to extend donate mercedes to them. Confused

no doubt the followers trying to be devotee, but i find the way they doing it will lead the monks to hell when they die because of spending too much time in luxuries than to practice monkhood.

your thought pls? do you think pampering monks are getting common these days? is it right or wrong?

A monk is suppose to have taken a vow of material abstinence. Therefore, they have no need for money, cars or expensive food. They dress simply and eat simply.

Monks who drive mercedes are fake monks.

but these days it is quite disturbing to see that even master monks doing it, those somemore from india.

no wonder most taiwan uni students become monks these days. it's just an excuse that they want to seek the truth... but rather they are escaping responsibilities in facing life.

i have a feeling these followers treating these monks like 5566.

Do you know that many people in SG become part time "monks" to earn a quick buck at other people funerals?

They are paid 1.3k for 3 days of chanting. If the master monk says dunno what and must extend chanting, can charge another $500. It happen to me before.

So I tailed the master monk and saw him driving a big Toyota car. The monks enjoy free meals at the funeral procession also.

religions can be twisted, be careful what we believe.
there are bad religious leaders and they spread the wrong messages,
So be careful what your hear. be mindful and do not plainly associate these men/women with the real religion.

I do not respect any religious person who spends donation money or take things from followers. Its no difference from bribery. I do not respect them for they hide in their safe world, well fed and the old men and women out there pushing carts of cardboard boxes trying to make money for their 3 meals.

thus i heard from master, gongde(virtue) is cultivated by the donating person regardless if the monk is unwholesome. you do unconditional good, hence you gain unconditional gongde(virtue).
the monk do bad, he demerit himself. you won't be effected by his demerit unless you support what he did. surely our intention is not to support his unwholesomeness, hence one will still gain gongde(virtue) regardless.

the Buddha gave a similie, a unwholesome monk is like dead carcasses drifting in the sea. although they are dead, one can still cling onto them as floating equipment to help one float to the safety of the other shore(ie liberation).

i forgot the amount of merit one gain when giving to monk from Ven Master Hai Tao. but i know it's indeed great.

It is good not to put unfavourable thoughts into our minds. Each of us has our own unique karma and will one day reap into result. You have yours, and I have mine. It's the law of cause and effect.

We cannot change others, the only persons we can change is ourselves.

It is always good to cultivate wisdom so that we can distinguish good teachers to follow on the Dharma path.

There are really many good Venerables and teachers around in Singapore.

This is an imperfect (not pure) world where there is always a law of opposite polarity. Good and bad always strike together. (Pure gold is at best 99.9% pure with 0.1% impurity). Everywhere, every organization, every community, every country - there are always good and bad people.

they do wrong it's their bussiness. why we be a busy body, and be vexed about it. no point.

that say also 'they' try to make us angry, and if we get angry, we 'zhong ta ji' (trick by them). angry only hurt ourselves, not them. Wink

3 people walking, sure to have 2 teacher. One is you, one is show good, one is show bad. Good one we learn to follow, bad one we learn Not to follow. See? both are our teacher.

Personally I feel that alot of people (including monks, famous people and TT Durai) fall into the trap because of "Gain, Honour and Fame". We are the one who somewhat contribute to their failing by giving them too much attention and respect.

actually Buddha already see it coming in this Dharma ending age.

even the strongest animal cannot escape the invasion of germs which attack from the inside. this is what mara told Buddha, that he's going to send his children to dress as unwholesome monks and nun and distort the Buddha's teachings and Dharma. this is to destory dharma from the inside.

first in the Buddhist point of view , we share ideas and practice that benefits others

This is very important,becos Buddhism is not a pluralist religion
there is no "I right !You Wrong!" idea here

If it is like that , We wont called Buddhist if we are not practising the true spirit of Buddhism - free inquiry , no dogma

We offered the seeds which will grow into a tree and bear fruits of Awakening for others in times to come

I believe this is what everyone want to see , a fusion of schools and teachings and not a certain narrow view on sectarian and starting to attack other school

"The world has full of such radical people ,we dont want to create one more to make more sentient beings suffer"

And for the best thing I can said ,sharing teachings with others is in line with Buddha Sakyamuni idea of "Open Door " and not "Closed Door "
