Buddhism means wake up your idea!

bohiruci SG

sound shocking , but we must know that Buddhism in India mean "awaken"

Laughing

so wat do u think will makes us a good Buddhist that stands out among the

other religion of praising Other power Smile ??

bohiruci SG

i mean in modern concept , if u want young ppl to take note of buddhism
we should approach a more charismatic approach

Buddha have used various charismatic approach to convert some of his disciple Laughing

An Eternal Now SG

Don't need to be specially modern, but at least not so attached to some traditions would certainly help.

We should also use a different approach to spread the Buddhadharma, although I personally think Evangelism is not the way for Buddhism.

laurence82 SG

quality over quantity

namelessness SG

Very refreshing. I like it.
I think it's better to use our own words to express the Buddha's teachings as long as we don't misinterpret it. This would make it much more compatible with our time and place.

An Eternal Now SG

Agreed Wink

But best still, both.

laurence82 SG

Must we take the charismatic approach?

Altho i dont quite like the topic starter doing comparisons on Buddhism with other faiths, do be aware of the dangers the charismatic approach in other faiths.

More often than not, it spawn cults, religious intolerance, lack of awareness of the faith.

Rather i take a step at a time to nurture one person, than to spread to 1000 people at one time.

An Eternal Now SG

True enough, many Buddhist cults have such a characteristic.

Eye in the Sky SG

Which cult or cults?

How to be walking on the Buddhist path towards enlightenment ...

1) It depends very highly on fate and destiny. Most likely if you are not 'touched' by the Right Hand of Buddha in your current lifetime, then maybe the next one (that is if you qualify, based on your Karma Account) or for some, not for a long long time.

If 1) is true ...

2) It then depends on your state of mind, environment, friends, social circles, etc.

and a whole load of other 'ingredients' that I am too tired to type it out.

... no spark no fire ...

An Eternal Now SG

Yes, both Yin and Yuan must meet before one has a chance to enter the Buddha door. It is quite difficult.

bohiruci SG

haha , i am shallow , i mean this is the STOP PRESS ! line lah
well as a topic starter i dun meant to shock ppl out there

if you read the Meaning of Buddha ,it means to awaken , and in the modern Army guys concept , awaken simply mean to wake up lor

well if comes to the 2nd and deeper level , we must understand abt wat Buddhism differs from other religion

is the concept of emptiness
which is in my home bookshelf , yet i cant reallie realise it yet Wink

the house is full of people ,but yet it is empty , maybe this is a trigger point for many in the forum

we may have the excellent home theater system, the best leather sofa and
the most fastest laptop and computer to work with

yet we find life is devoid of something ....

there goes the search for real happiness

thats wat many master do as the reason y they embark on journey to spiritual understanding and attainment ...

bohiruci SG

Evangelism is not the way for Buddhism , then wat is Buddha doing when he sent 50 disciples to preach .

I dun agree ,i tends to look at another viewpoint , we are converting ppl thru inner reflect
not forcing ppl to give hp and start calling and calling

earthlings73 SG

I think you guys are doing quite good here already! Laughing The most important quality of Buddhism is to allow an individual to exercise one's mind to seek the truth. Hence, discussing how basic Buddhistic principles can be used in our daily lives will help to attract others to find out more about the Religion.

An Eternal Now SG

It depends on what you meant by evangelism Wink

laurence82 SG

Depends on whether AEN is thinking of the methodology or method

As a methodology, as a concept, evangelism exist in one form or another in all faiths.

Then, the question would be what method would you employ to spread the teachings?

earthling put it well, its thru inner reflection, not pushing something as the truth down somebody else throats...

Eye in the Sky SG

define 'methodology' and 'method'. a last visit to the dictionary show they are the same thing!?

what is the truth? which truth? one yob tot truth cant be shared, its territorial, 'its me, not yours'.

Ito_^ SG

shui yuan bah.

Eye in the Sky SG

whats that? if you can explain ...

laurence82 SG

Dictionary is a simple tool to understanding words. If it isnt, people wont need to take up English major. Laughing

Methodology is a concept, method is an action. If you wish to know more, you can pick up books on research methods.

Again, for someone's visual incapability, truth can be shared, but not put down people's throat..

BTW, Caffries is a better beer ... Wink
