He is a Georgian(Not the US state,but a country in Caucasus area) not a Russian
His original name is Josef Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili
His mother wanted him to be a priest,sent him to a seminary but he got kicked out just before his graduation.
In USA during WW2,he was known as 'Uncle Joe',when Franklin Roosevelt told him about this nickname he almost walked out of the Yalta conference.
