If Eragon was to be screened before LOTR it wouldn't have been
so bad. We all know what veteren actors as Jeremy irons (Kingdom of
Heaven) and John Malkovich (The Messenger: The story of Joan of
Arc) can do but with an average script and limited screen time
that's all there is.
Fight scenes and sequences, shooting locations and computer
animation effects asided, LOTR in fact has a very strong cast and
even supporting actors with charisma and more potential. I do not
have to name them all but prior to the film and running
concurrently that year we saw them in The matrix and X-men. Later
we also see them in Doom, Silent Hill, Pirates of Caribbean, Troy,
Click etc. To me LOTR is a movie that is seriously going for awards
while Eragon is a film on a tight budget hoping a young face can
win some cheers from the teens. My god that lad's charisma as a
knight and warrior dwarfs in the presence of legolas an Elf!
One thing is for sure any dragon movies from now is going to have
to beat those handsomely crafted masters of the air, breather of
flames from Reign of Fire. Those who have watched ROF will probably
agree that the artistes created the dragons from scratch to
life!
Too bad for Eragon. The sequels will have to do better.
