Posted this on FB but here it goes here: Scientists discover new species of 'blind snake' in Brazilian river that looks remarkably like a piece of the human...

the Bear SG

let's update this.. coz i have some time before i go to work...

here's something weird...

it's a squid.. it's a worm.. it's a SQUID WORM!!!

it's a worm.. yet it has tentacles like a squid..

scientist think this is a "transitional" species which is in-between two types of species in the midst of evolution

^Acid^ aka s|aO^eH~ SG

only the Japanese bees know how to do that.. the European bees just get massacred

and for the Japanese bees, the trick is to get the hornet (note the singular term) when it is scouting the nest.. if more than a couple of the giant hornets come to the nest, the nest is doomed...

Completely owned...

the Bear SG

okay.. time for an update before the barbeque tonight...

world's smallest frog was found recently in Borneo.. this is the fully grown adult

the Bear SG

another update time.. this time, it's kinda.. weird and cute and... weird...

Yoda Bat

doesn't it look like Yoda?

it's actually a "tube nosed fruit bat" but has been christened the "Yoda Bat".. not really documented yet as it is still being classified and checked out for what kind of species it is...

the Bear SG

this one is cute.. it's the

Longhorn Cowfish

it's a species of boxfish and is slow-swimming and easily caught by hand... but if stressed enough, it can secrete deadly toxins through its skin..

wth~ i click quote and the 2nd pic enlarged... scary sia~~~

I was trying to ask if the horn can be used to impale or are they actually soft?

the Bear SG

the fish is this shape as its scales are fused into a bony plate.. the "horns" are pretty much the same.. not used for impalement or anything, they're pretty much harmless

elindra SG

Taenioides cirratus aka Bearded worm goby

the Bear SG

here's a cute little... Vampire Deer

these are actually Water Deer and no.. it's not photoshopped.. those are its tusks... which it uses as weapons...

Native to China and introduced to a few places like Britain, Europe and the US, the tusks are used during the rutting season and considering where they originate from, probably hungry PRCs trying to snare them for the pot

Today's edition comes to you courtesy of the Tarantula Hawk Wasp

yes, it is as scary as it is big... it flies around looking for tarantulas or the tarantula lairs... where it goes into the lair or just stings the hell out of the giant spider..

the sting does not kill the spider but causes it to become paralysed... where the wasp then lays an egg on the spider..

the egg hatches and om nom noms on the spider, leaving the vital organs for last so that it has fresh meat...

then it pupates and turns into another one of these giant spider hunting scary monsters..

mother nature is hardcore!
