time to go to work..

tomorrow, it's voting day... vote with what you know is right.. and what you know will allow the country to grow and mature, not to be stifled and fearful...

to see further than just your pocketbook and your petty insecurities.. to see what we can become if we are allowed to be all that we can be...

to prevent what happens when a father refuses to let go of their child, causing the child to become embittered, sociopathic, ignorant, and hateful... and to allow the child to face the world, gaining confidence in their independence, finding their own limits, becoming a mature and able adult...

to know what the politicians are.. to know who stands where for what and why... not because of the petty materialistic gains you think they'll provide...

maybe, just maybe... if even the politicians think this way, Singapore will have a chance to grow, to mature and to become what we can be...

that is the power of your vote...

that.. and try to vote for the people you hate less... right now i hate one in one of the parties so much because he dared to say that he regretted the $300,000 hospital bill to save a child...

the others just irk me and irritate me...

he's the one who tipped the balance...

but search for "love is a many splendoured thing" ......

not really faithful to the book as most movie remakes are, but this one's very well made ....

han suyin actually taught in singapore before I believe ...... english lit .....

stars william holden and jennifer jones ......

story's about an eurasian doctor who's stuck in hong kong around the end of the chinese civil war and the start of the korean conflict .... and her affair with a married english journalist with deep roots in china .... and the resulting conflict of their relationship between their respective worlds .....

ultimately ... mark, the journalist, was killed in korea ......

I remember this was the second book that made me cry after wuthering heights ....

the book is han suyin's tour de force ... I have almost the complete set of her other works, and none comes close ....and this old movie's almost as good ....

RM50bn for MRT in KL should not be an issue, because of how much $$ PLUS collects in a day or a week.

this has been a very polarizing elections ... everyone has their own perspective ....

but let me tell you about my day .... i was around sungei kadut today .... but my client's factory is moving, they've almost finished packing already .... thankfully not relocating to johore (yet ? ), but only to jurong .... they are expanding their operations.

They fabricate steel components for the construction and offshore industries. And they have talked about relocating to johore before .... if they cannot get enough banglas quotas and enough skilled welders and fitters (who are invariably FTs nowadays, no young singaporean wants such a job) ... the engineers and foremen are singkies though.

but, they say, relocating to johore is definitely not their first choice, why ? cos it's not just a function of costs in Singapore. Most of their clients, especially the civil contractors, are locals. secondly, it's logistics, logistics is not just about getting things you've made to your clients, but also getting your raw materials to your factory, put a country border in between these two points, and you'll add duties and taxes on top of your costs. if you're shipping your partial components from singapore to johore and then exporting out the finished products again, paying duties and taxes both ways, then it's just as cost uneffective, if not more, with the only effect of enriching our neighbours and not ourselves ... plus you'd factor in the effeciency, or rather the lack of, of our neighbours, as pinky pointed out, the bumi monopolized transport industry up north is not cheap ! ... so imagine the steel sewage pipes you need for new buildings like the HDB flats and sky scrappers would end up costing more, driving up our costs even further ....

the SDP's plan sounds good on paper, but ........

not that it matters anyways ..... this elections has become a purely emotional exercise.

tat's what I said... Many ppl dun realise SDP's proposal dun work for everyone.

I mean investors are smarter than zheng hu, they would focus on high end value production today automatically..

But some industries lan lan still gotta stay over logisitics issue. I also cited why the 1.5L bottled drinks are still bottled here today - logistics issue (bulky in tonnage).

Somemore you need to have an industry before you can develop e sup industries like R&D.

All these form a jig saw puzzle.

Now I'm not saying wat e PAP does now is perfect, but if everyone is willing to change and strive to be adaptive, I believe our industries can perform better.

But one thing is certain, like it or not, e target can't be we being a fully industrialised nation.

the truth is that you cannot just filter out what you like and kick out those you don't .... like this client makes very unglamourous things, basically high and low pressure pipes and valves .... it's not high tech, and quite labour intensive .... but we need it to service the ships that visit our harbours, the oil and refining industry that underpins a large sector of our economy, and we need it in the flats and buildings we put up ... they already have a malaysian subsidiary near subang that caters to the malaysian market, if they find it worthwhile to have a singapore factory to cater to the singapore market then there must be economic forces at work to make economic sense for them ... even the whizz bang high tech labs and R&D clean rooms need such pipings ...

even if we can spend the money and relocate these industries out of singapore to benefit us (and to enrich other countries at our expense), we cannot plan for the administrative and management efficiency of other countries that these industries relocate to, so it's akin to kicking their butts and slapping ourselves at the same time ....

oh well ... like I've said, this has been an emotionally charged elections .... which I find very sad, for emotions negates reason ....

time to walk gau gau ..... she's been barking at all the different candidates visiting these past few days ..... though she has a particular hatred for the SDP chaps .... maybe it's cos they were all wearing red ? ....

Tat's why I say, rather than helping others, we help ourselves and do better.. But thing is, we need ppl to solve e current mess.

I figured it's going to take a good 1 - 2 yrs to settle it as well

just like I've said before, truth is the first casaulty of this campaign, too many people are just too ready to believe anything bad and scandalous of the incumbents .... if you can point out that this was fabricated as well then you ought to point it out, there ! ... because it constitutes actual slander ! ...
