To work or not to work

Hi guys I'vebeen MIA for some years now.. and I've recently become a mum to a cute baby boy! Quite naughty too, but he's also a good kid in some ways! :D

I'll be going back to work in a couple of weeks and can't help feeling depressed because it's so hard to leave my baby with someone else! I am putting him in infantcare because there is no one else to take care of him.

I feel so attached to him!!! and he to me too!! He kicks so excitedly and smiles at me when I say good morning to him everyday.

Do you guys have suggestions how I can have a stay hom part time job so that I can continue to be with him?

you can become a part time property agent or insurance agent .... just don't become a part time MLM agent ....

can i not be such agents? they are not really stay home jobs, there is no one to look after my baby if I have to go out..

if the maternal pull is too much and you can afford it, quit and maybe get some kind of freelance work of stuff like copywriting or whatever if you are inclined...

still can watch over baby.. but then, gotta watch the deadlines coz the interweb, the tv, the baby, the hubby, the housework will distract you..

my wife used to work part time and received prorated annual leave, prorated 13th month etc and other benefit.

it might be easier to transit from taking care of your kids to partmer.

how about being a full time mum? my mum is, and she can devote all her time on my siblings and I when we were kids, and keeping the house in order. that if of course u are financially able to do so.

if not, i am sure classified ads and recrut agencies might offer such jobs? but no guarantees that the jobs are permenent. as in, they could be for a few weeks or months type.

nother way is that some companies, esp govt jobs, are promoting "work at home scheme" for mums. but i am not sure how you would go about applying for such jobs... at cdc?

Pro tip: Part time Jobs, with no commitment and also flexible. Low hours also. Find those near your supermarkets. After work, you can still accompany your baby :)

Part time jobs not really suitable as I do not have anyone to help take care of my baby while I'm at work, and u know with low part time pay (typically <1.5k??) and having to pay for infantcare (which are priced & subsidized such that there's little difference full time care and part time care) i'm better off financially 1) working full time 2) staying home in this order than working part time.. unless it is a part time work from home then i wun need to pay for childcare..

anyways no choice for time being, just get on with work first.. either i adapt or if my baby cant adapt, then i have to "sacrifice" but I guess that's what being a parent is all about. it's so sobering!! but just watching a child grow and learn is one of life's greatest simple most overlooked joys!

A friend of mine is having the same situation as you.

She talked to her boss and HR about her situation and they worked out something - she will continue to work full-time in the company but 2 to 3 days of the week(depend on the urgency of her project or work), she will work at home and contactable using email.

See if you can talk to your boss about this.

We still have not gotten down to planning for parenthood yet and I wonder sometimes how our child will look like since he/she will be a Chindian baby too :P

HI Elindra, chindians are the cutest I tell you!! Ok I'm biased perhaps.. towards my own kid, but who isn't? When I was pregg, weused to stare at couples like us who have kids.. they were supposed to be admiration stares, but some got interpeted at rude stares. Ooops.. my boy's features really "unfold" as he grows day by day.. initially he looked very chinese.. then suddenly one day his eyes started to pop double eyelids one by one.. so funny.. when he first came out, immedaitely I recog my lips and my hubby's nose.. till now we dont know whose eyes but I guess they're a mix.. :D

Hi zoragirl, thanks for the suggestions.. I will try to see if I can adapt.. if not, then I will ask my HR.. anyways I'm unfortunately falling into the group of not having much family support.. so my poor little boy has to go to infantcare. at first we thought it was ok, but during my maternity leave i have read so much literature stating how undesirable such early childcare is for small babies, particularly boys, hence start to have a change of mind.. but whocares in our society? the govt only cares if the workforce is big, they dun care if our kids are going to have all the love & attention they need

Oh, we do stare at couples like us with kids too because we are curious and it’s like a yardstick to us on what to expect though we do know it’s really rude to stare.

Most of my friends are bugging us to have a baby soon because everyone is curious how our child will look like.
