ruminated on this while I was chomping on my beehoon with egg
breaky this morning ....
cos there's an article on pre-nups in Singapore advertised right
on the front page of the sunday times .....
This singaporean woman who married some frog aristocrat had to
sign a pre-nup to keep his french castle out of her hands in case
they split up ....
would you sign one if your future spouse asks you to sign on
before marriage ? .... would you ask your future spouse to sign on
? ....
I've seen, among some of the people I personally know, that
splitting up can be very very expensive, and not only if you're
rich (remember my plutonian landlord ? ) .... at least a pre-nup
can keep most of your hard-earned matrimonial assets away from the
paws of some slimey divorce lawyer, if not your spouse ...
but I simply don't feel right about signing a document preparing
for the failure of a union even before it's began ... somehow it
discordant with my romantic notions of what a marriage should be
(what's mine shall be hers, what's hers shall still be hers
v
). If I were to
marry someone, I'd have given her my heart ... and if she turned
out to be some gold digging harpy from the gutters .... then
really, it wouldn't matter that much if she steals what I have left
.... for she'd have already tossed away the heart that I've given
freely ....
of course, I don't think I have that much now to be worth any
harpy's while for her to do that to me ....
but who knows, if I had struck the CNY TOTO huat pot the other
night ...
... or were some
screwed up hollywood actor .... or a castle dwelling old world
aristocrat looking for the cho cho san experience
........................
would you ? .....
