To me GEP is just some harebrained elitist scheme designed to
cultivate and nurture the so-called 'born geniuses' at the expense
of the Average Joes.
In the first place, just because you do well academically when
you're young doesn't mean that you'll always do well. I once knew
this fella who scored 262 in his PSLE and had a bright future ahead
of him. But then he chose the slack route, dropped A Maths and
Higher MT, and barely made it into poly on his weak O Level grades.
He was no doubt intelligent, but by his own admission he was a
slacker as well.
Last I heard, he dropped out halfway through poly. I wonder what
the heck he's doing now.
Besides, the way I see it, university is the great leveller.
Regardless of whatever background you may have had, once you're in,
you're all on the same level.
